Commands to Setup NodeJS on Ubuntu 12 VM

First you will need to create a new virtual machine, you can do this in a number of places online now. https://cloud.digitalocean.com/droplets is a good cheap one.

## ADD NEW USER

We don’t want to use the root user so let’s create a new user and give it sudo permissions (required so it can install packages).

## INSTALL GIT

optionally install GIT

## INSTALL DOT FILES
optionally install default DOTFILES

## INSTALL NODE JS PREREQUSITES

sudo apt-get install build-essential g++
sudo apt-get install make

## INSTALL NODE JS & NPM

Install Node & NPM without using sudo.

# if you get an error here you might need to check .bashrc to see if the PATH is on it’s own line.

Install Node & NPM without using sudo.

## INSTALL APACHE
optionally install apache.

go to VM’s ip address to view apache root (on the VM this should be /var/www)
